Comal County commissioners Thursday accepted a $4,991 check from Comal Trails Alliance (CTA) to help fund Phase 2 of a new trail at Canyon Lake’s 52-acre James C. Curry Nature Center.
Pct. 1 Commissioner Donna Eccleston praised the group’s involvement with the project.
“It very much has enhanced a lot of the offerings there and I would encourage everyone to go out and see the new trail when it’s completed,” she said.
CTA promotes the continued development of local trails and active transportation options in Comal County.
The nature center, located at 1889 Skyline Dr. in Sattler/Canyon Lake just east of Canyon Dam, features a .9-mile loop trail considered an “easy route,” according to alltrails.com.
The trail is open from sunrise to sunset. Camping and motorized vehicles are prohibited.
Curry also has a food pantry named after him at the CRRC of Canyon Lake.
The local businessman in June 2022 donated $50,000 to the Food Pantry and made a $200,000 endowment to support CRRC programs that provide crisis assistance, food pantry services, education, and recreation.
