Organizers are begging for volunteers to help plan VFW Post 8800’s 35th Annual 4th of July Parade.

The popular event attracts hundreds of Canyon Lake residents who pack the sides of FM 2673 to enjoy customary Americana like a flyover, floats, trucks, jeeps and cars — and politicians and local business leaders.

Everyone in Canyon Lake loves the event but took it for granted until Quartermaster Tessa Teel resigned in 2025 due to a medical crisis.

After an emergency meeting in June 2025, dozens of volunteers rallied behind the VFW and the parade rolled on.

Tuesday was a different story.

“We had minimal attendance and definitely not enough people to put a parade together and run it,” said organizer Tara Evans.

Another meeting is planned for 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 31 at the VFW, 7755 FM 2673 in Startzville.

“If we do not get more support we will unfortunately have to cancel the parade,” she said. “I don’t want to see that happen and I know nobody else does, but this is one of those things that takes a village. Please, let’s all come together and make this happen. A 250th birthday is definitely something you don’t want to let pass without celebrating.

“Thank you and God bless the USA!”

The VFW suports veterans by providing mutual support and comradeship while serving the Canyon Lake community.
