County Releases COVID-19 Data for Dec. 22, Reports Two Deaths
Comal County on Monday issued its first COVID-19 update since the Christmas holiday, reporting 34 new cases of the virus on Dec. 22 and two deaths.
A New Braunfels man in his 80s died on Dec. 1 at a San Antonio hospital and a Spring Branch woman in her 80s died of the virus at her home on Dec. 11, the county said in a statement.
The total number of cases in the county since March 2020 is now 20,839. The total number of deceased is 477.
Comal County will release data reported over the holiday weekend later today.
County hospitals are caring for 12 COVID-19 patients. Of those, six are in intensive care and four are on ventilators. Approximately 94% of these patients are unvaccinated. Not all COVID-positive patients hospitalized here are necessarily county residents.
Some 61.49% of county residents are hospitalized.
Texas’ positivity rate is 21.27%. The number of confirmed cases is 15,093. The number of new probable cases is 2,238. Forty-three deaths were reported today. The positivity rate for Dec. 26 is 21.27%.
The county’s Public Health Department is administering Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for those 18 and older, and Pfizer vaccines for anyone five years and older. Booster vaccines are also available.
