Comal County’s brush yard at the Comal County Recycling Center, 281 Resource Dr., New Braunfels, reopened today.

Spokesperson Cary Zayas said the county recently completed a “massive grinding project” resulting in over 40,000 cubic yards of fresh mulch ready for pickup.

Residents who plan to avail themselves of the free mulch must bring a tarp.

Mulch is available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

“Whether you’re a professional landscaper or a home gardening enthusiast, this is an excellent chance to stock up on top-tier materials for your project,” she said.

The county also will host two special Saturday events to clear out inventory created by the development of a new access road. Staff will help load mulch from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 14, and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 21.

Approximately 17,000 cubic yards of aged mulch will be available.
