Comal ISD said today it is canceling bus routes daily as more drivers get tested for COVID-19 and call in sick, a trend it expects to continue for the next several weeks.
In an email to parents, Supt. Andrew Kim said the district is working on a plan that will allow it to provide stable transportation services to students and will share that information with parents on Thursday.
He said the district has dealt with a driver shortage since the beginning of the school year in August but until now has sustained service using transportation office staff and mechanics.
“Our goal is to communicate with you quickly as possible when we are canceling a route so you can make appropriate plans to get your child to and/or from school,” Kim said. “However, please know that there may be times when we are notified at the last minute that a driver is not coming in, preventing us from giving you advanced notice.”
In his email, Kim included a link for anyone interested “and willing” to become a bus driver for Comal ISD.
