Velma Ybarra, noted educator and chair of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC)’s Education Committee, is the featured speaker at “Critical Race Theory Is Not the Issue: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Explained,” a 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17 online forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Comal Area (LWV-CA).

Ybarra, a retired principal with 40 years of experience in education, worked in the first desegregated school district in Texas, San Felipe ISD in Del Rio.

“Many people do not have a thorough understanding of the content and intent of CRT, which has led to a lot of hyperbole and reactionary legislation,” she said.

LWV-CA President Jerrie Champlin said she hopes the online event will help take politics, hyperbole and misinformation out of the CRT conversation.

“Our goal is to reach a better understanding of the issue involved in educating for participation a culturally diverse society and a participatory democracy,” she said.

Diann Andy, chair of the LWV Texas’ Public Education committee, said CRT is not widely taught in Texas public schools.

The program also will be livestreamed on Facebook @LWVComalTX and a recording will be posed to LWV-CA’s YouTube Channel.

The image selected to represent this post says it all. While the body of the post gives smoke and mirrors “nothing to see here folks”. As a Native and Latina I regrettably served in LULAC as a youth. Demeaning and undermining parents and their concerns of what their children are being taught is intrusive and WRONG.
“Our goal is to reach a better understanding of the issue involved in educating for participation a culturally diverse society and a participatory democracy,” Simply translates to “we need to teach children to look at their skin color in order to be in society”.
CRT is also an integral part of CASEL where they teach about the “white man” being responsible for everyone’s issues. Oppressed verses the oppressor mentality is not enriching society, it’s reversing it and will have lasting implication on our children and country if not stopped. Youth suicide only continues to rise and unstudied programs like this will be contributory. Wake up people!

LULAC is obviously a communist organization-CRT is not about race but separating the races- that is why a large number of people are also against it- LULAC needs to stay out of Comal county and resolved in the state of Texas
