CRRC’s Rec Center Reopens with a Game of Pickleball, New Hours

Share
Community Resource and Recreation Center of Canyon Lake serves residents by providing vital social service resources as well as life-enriching recreation and educational opportunities.

Six days after Community Resource & Recreation Center of Canyon Lake (CRRC) abruptly and without explanation closed its popular Rec Center on the Dam Access Road, the facility reopened for pickleball.

CRRC Development Director Maureen Schein said the decision came after Executive Director Jason Derscheid was encouraged by community members to reopen rather than waiting to hire a new permanent director. Recreation Director Andi Taliaferro resigned in late December. CRRC said her assistant, Stephanie Gonzalez, is no longer employed by the charity.

Derscheid and other staff will contact instructors and organizations that use the faciilty to confirm and secure agreements, and to work out schedules. Schein said CRRC will post further information about class scheduling on Facebook.

Families that signed up for Spurs Youth Basketball League will receive full refunds soon. Checks are being processed this week.

Derscheid said Spurs representatives will allow the CRRC to host a league later in the spring or summer.

Meanwhile, CRRC will continue with repairs it announced on Dec. 31. Temporary new hours for the Rec Center are 10 a.m. to noon and noon to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
