The CRRC of Canyon Lake says its Food Pantry and warehouse are stocked with shelf-stable foods as the U.S. government prepares to cut off Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits Saturday, Nov. 1.
“Forward-thinking preparation” and strong partnerships with the San Antonio Food Bank and local donors enabled the charity to stockpile food supplies, Executive Director Tiffany Quiring said in a statement.
The Canyon Lake community is responding the way it always does — “with action, compassion and unity.”
“However, rapid increase in demand will deplete these supplies in the future,” she said. “New faces are already appearing — neighbors preparing for benefit disruptions, families reaching out for help, and others asking how they can give back.”
The community can help by donating food or money, hosting food drives, volunteering time and letting others know help is available, she said.
Applications for SNAP are still accepted. Other programs like WIC, Medicaid, CHIP and TANF are not currently affected by the federal government shutdown.
