Pilot Club of Canyon Lake wants you to invite friends and out-of-town guests to its second annual Cruisin’ Canyon Lake Getaway Weekend 2017 fundraiser Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
The weekend event — billed as putting the ‘fun’ in fundraiser’ — also benefits Community Resource and Recreation Center of Canyon Lake (CRRC) and Tye Preston Memorial Library, and includes activities specific to Canyon Lake area.
Tickets are sold separately for each event and can be purchased online by clicking here. There is no registration fee but participants must choose at least one paid event to join the welcome party on Sept. 29. Some class sizes are limited. Check website for availability.
Schedule of Events:
Check In – 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29 at Overlook Park, 601 Coe Rd., Canyon Lake (by Canyon Lake dam). Pick up goodie bag and registration materials. Guests who arrive on Saturday can check in between 8 and 10 a.m.
Welcome Party – 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29 at Tye Preston Memorial Library, 16311 South Access Rd., Canyon Lake. Organizers describe this as a happy hour mixed with fun. Play Heads and Tails or discover what Corn Hole is all about. Local artisans will be on hand to sell items. Free. Cruisin’ Canyon Lake t-shirts available for $15-$17.
Kayaking – 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, Saturday, Sept. 30 and Sunday, Oct. 1 at Rio Guadalupe Resort, 14130 River Rd, New Braunfels. Three-hour single-kayak rentals. Call 830-964-3613 to make reservations or email rioraft@gvtc.com. Pay Rio Guadalupe Resort directly. $37.47.
Fly Fishing – Friday, Sept. 29, Saturday, Sept. 30 and Sunday, Oct. 1 at Rio Guadalupe Resort. Call for times. Each class taught stream-side by professional fly-fishing guides with years of experience hosting trips on rivers in Texas and the Rocky Mountain west. Targeting fish species and techniques to catch them also emphasized. All equipment and snacks provided. Call 830-964-3613 to make reservations or email rioraft@gvtc.com. Raffle Run/Walk – 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at Overlook Park. A $7 entry fee also enters ticket holders into raffle for numerous prizes.
Three-Hour, Guided Walking Tour of Canyon Lake Gorge – 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at Canyon Lake Gorge, 16209 South Access Rd., Canyon Lake. Water and trail mix provided. $20.
Adult Mud Pies – 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at CRRC Community Center, 125 Mabel Jones Dr., Canyon Lake. Build a work-of-art under the tutelage of talented clay artist Marilyn Good of Good Works Clay. She’ll fire and glaze pots to specification. $40.
What Is Battenberg Cake? – 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at Tye Preston Memorial Library. Owners Susana and Clem will teach participants to make this German tradition and dress up their holiday table swith a delicious pistachio-rosewater checkerboard cake “en-robed” in sumptuous marzipan. $27.
The Exotic Orchid – 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at Tye Preston Memorial Library. Canyon Lake’s mysterious Orchid Lady will teach participants how to keep orchids alive and promises to send them home with exotic orchid paraphernalia. $20.
Golf – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1 at Lakeside Golf Club, 405 Watts Ln, Canyon Lake. Includes cart. To schedule a tee time, email Cindy Helton, chelton@gvtc.com. $30.
Guadalupe Nature Walk – 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Saturday, Sept. 30 at CRRC Pavilion, 125 Mabel Jones Dr., Canyon Lake. Leave for a walk along the beautiful Guadalupe River. Tour guide Jamie Kinscherff will teach participants to discover native plants of Central Texas and use them as pioneers once did. Box lunch included. $20.
Salad Luncheon – 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at Tye Preston Memorial Library. Menu includes chicken salad, green salad and pasta salad with ice tea or lemon water. Cookie for dessert. $20.
Silk Scarf Painting – 12:45 to 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at Tye Preston Memorial Library. Betty Smith demonstrates how to paint a beautiful, long silk scarf. Scarf, paints and drawings included. $35.
Sip ‘n Paint with Cheryl – 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at CRRC Community Center. Award-winning artist Cheryl Wooten and Cindy Helton lead a sip-and-paint class. Learn to paint a wine glass. All materials and wine included. $35.
SCONEhenge – 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at Tye Preston Memorial Library. Hannah Mathes teaches the art of making cinnamon scones. $20.
High Tea – 3:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at Tye Preston Memorial Library. Renee Tucei and daughters serve high tea, replete with an assortment of international teas, finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, lemon curd and jam, and sweet nibbles. $40.
Grateful Geezers Dance/Concert – 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at CRRC Recreation Center. Hati Cantu and her line dancers teach party-goers the latest steps at 6 p.m. Grateful Geezers arrive at 7 p.m. Beer, wine and sandwiches available for sale. $20.
