Cruisin’ for Funds

A cruise, a dance … and perfect scones!
A Columbus Day weekend fundraiser sponsored by Pilot Club of Canyon Lake proved a huge success with area residents — and some out-of-towners.
Money raised through Cruisin’ Canyon Lake Getaway Weekend will be invested directly back into the community, where it will support Pilot Club’s area charitable projects and Tye Preston Memorial Library.
“Everyone had a wonderful time,” says Event Chair Shirley Skala. “All three events proved very successful, and we received so many compliments about the variety of things to do.”
Sunset cruise
Friday night, Oct. 7 kicked off the festivities with a sold-out Canyon Lake Sunset Cruise. The weather was perfect, the lake was calm and attendees enjoyed “lots of wine” and excellent food.
“Everyone sat upstairs, enjoying the wind and the spectacular views,” says Membership Chair Nancy Ferguson. “We had the whole boat to ourselves, and everyone mingled.”
Delicious scones
Saturday afternoon, Oct. 8, New Braunfels chef Ruth Stone of Ruth Stone Catering provided luncheon and taught a class on scone-making.
Geezer dance
The fundraiser ended with a dance at CRRC in Sattler.
“The dance floor was packed because the Grateful Geezers were amazing,” says Pilot President Sandi Koonce. “Nobody wanted to sit out a single song because the group played everything from the 1960s to 1990s. There was lots of fast-dancing.”
Ferguson says planning for the 2017 Cruisin’ Canyon Lake will begin after Thanksgiving. To learn more, click here.
