Comal ISD says it will increase law-enforcement presence at Danville Middle School Monday after one threat and one rumor of a school shooting in less than a week left parents wondering whether it’s safe to send their kids to school.

Friday, Sept. 19, the district emailed parents to reassure them that law enforcement had thoroughly investigated a social-media post regarding a threat at the school.

In a statement, the district said administrators were notified Monday, Sept. 15, that a student made a threatening statement to two classmates.

An investigation resulted in appropriate disciplinary action.

Comal ISD warned parents that student jokes about violence will not be tolerated and could potentially lead to criminal prosecution.

Then on Saturday, Sept. 20, a visibly distraught parent of a Danville High School student posted a video on social media warning other parents that the same child showed up at a Danville High School football game on Friday, Sept. 19 and said they planned to “shoot up the school” Monday, Sept. 22, or use a knife if a gun could not be found.

The parent urged the district to take the threat seriously.

Principal Canaan Dreibrodt responded Saturday, Sept. 20 in another email to parents, advising them a second investigation revealed the student was not in attendance at the game.

“The safety and security of all students and staff at Danville Middle School remain our top priority,” he said.  “Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increase of law enforcement presence on campus Monday, Sept. 22.”
