DCA to Fund Repairs to Crappie Fishing Dock

The only public fishing dock on Canyon Lake may soon reopen thanks to the Dam Community Alliance (DCA), which is in the process of scheduling repairs.
The crappie fishing dock at Cranes Mill Park was closed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) last year due to a broken weld from the ramp to the dock.
The dock is a popular hangout for visitors, families and many senior citizens who fish for crappie and catfish.
“The repairs will be scheduled soon so that we can get it opened back up for our community to enjoy,” said Comal County Pct. 4 Commissioner Jen Crownover, who formed DCA several years ago in an effort to marshal community funds to reopen Canyon Lake dam’s walkway after the USACE closed it due to a complaint about handicap access.
“I’m super proud of the work we have done, and excited about what we are continuing to do,” she said.
Cranes Mill Park is located on a long peninsula on the southwestern shore of Canyon Lake. It hosts 30 RV sites, 34 tent sites, a dump station, restrooms with hot and cold showers, boat ramp in the park with restroom facilities, two fishing piers, adjacent marina and many undeveloped acres of land where the wildlife is abundant.
