Comal County master gardeners and Comal County master naturalists will release 2,000 ladybugs 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14 at Comal County Extension Services, 325 Resources Dr., New Braunfels.
The release is part of Comal County’s office of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s annual open house.
The free event, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., includes classes, tours and children’s activities.
The open house also features a scavenger hunt with prizes and a backyard petting zoo.
“Everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy learning more about gardens and nature from our expert volunteers,” said Connie Sheppard, extension agent for family and consumer sciences. “We will have classes on everything from gardening for butterflies to drip irrigation to mulching and composting, along with garden and arboretum tours. It’s a way for us to show off these great facilities and help Comal County residents learn how to make their own backyards greener.”
Local gardening expert Calvin Fitch will answer questions from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Comal County will display a restored 1930s-era tractor.
“We have a great time with this event every year,” Sheppard says. “It’s a small way for us to give back to the community for the support they show us all year long.”
