Families are invited to have fun and learn how to stay safe and healthy at the Comal County Office of Public Health’s annual National Infant Immunization Week health fair.

The fair, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, includes games, crafts and activities for kids, as well as information and door prizes.

“We invite any and all families to come out, enjoy themselves and learn more about the services available in our community to keep their children healthy and safe,” says Gwen Mills, Comal County director of Public Health.

National Infant Immunization Week, April 22-29, is an annual observance to highlight the importance of protecting infants from vaccine-preventable diseases and to celebrate the achievements of immunization programs in promoting healthy communities throughout the United States.

“Each year, thousands of children become ill from diseases that could have been prevented by basic childhood immunizations,” Mills said. “Countless more miss time from day care and school because they are under-immunized or inappropriately immunized. This fair is a way for us to alert the community to the importance of infant vaccinations while having a fun time.”

The fair will include:
· Information on immunizations, health topics and safety tips
· Games and activities
· Face painting
· Coloring and crafts
· Story time with the New Braunfels Public Library
· Kid Print identification cards
· McGruff the Crime Dog
· Vision screenings
· Free prize bags for the first 100 kids
· Drawings for door prizes
