University of Texas at San Antonio sociology professor Richard Lewis, Ph.D., is the featured speaker at the July meeting of the Democratic Women of Comal County.
He’ll discuss New Braunfels’ Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Awareness (IDEA) Forum.
The group is a coalition of community leaders and interested citizens appointed by New Braunfels Mayor Rusty Blockman in 2020. The coalition was formed in response to the Black Lives Matters Movement.
IDEA’s goal is to create a welcoming community in New Braunfels by educating the community about diversity issues, encouraging diverse representation in community leadership, reviewing policies and procedures of the New Braunfels Police Department, and promoting cross-cultural relationships and collaboration.
In March, the IDEA Forum released the results of a county-wide survey regarding the perception of community diversity and inclusion in New Braunfels.
