League of Women Voters of the Comal Area wants women’s rights restored.

From Facebook:

“On Aug. 26, we commemorate passage of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution which granted some women the right to vote. Every year, we celebrate the accomplishments women have made and signal hope that we are moving towards full equality.

“However, this year, LWVUS will not be celebrating. More than 100 years since women won the right to vote, women have fewer rights than they have had in decades. Women’s rights are under attack and it is clear that we are far from equal in our democracy. Instead, we are relabeling the day as Women’s Inequality Day to send a message that the recent attacks on women are taking us backward as a nation. We are launching a campaign calling on our lawmakers to restore and protect the rights of women.

“Democracy depends on equal rights for all people. Generations before us fought tirelessly to gain and protect the rights we have today. Losing our right to reproductive choice opens the door to the loss of other freedoms like marriage equality, contraception and the right to engage in private, consensual intimacy. We are in a fight to make sure everyone has the power to control their own bodies, lives and futures. We will not back down.

“Join the LWV-Comal Area and community partners on Friday, Aug. 26, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Main Plaza in New Braunfels to rally for human rights.

“Please note, this is a nonpartisan rally and we ask that participants honor that nonpartisan spirit by not wearing or displaying any clothing or signs that support or oppose any political party or candidate.”
