Canyon Lake Boat Ramp #18 in Canyon Park will become the first public boat ramp to reopen since the drought forced closure of almost all of the lake’s 23 ramps,

Heavy rains on July 4-5 caused the Guadalupe River to flood, raising lake levels from around 877 a week ago to 889.84 feet today.

WORD of Comal County Executive Director Mike Dussere said the ramp, located in the 485-acre day use Canyon Park on the north side of Canyon Lake, will reopen at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 12 to both motorized and non-motorized vessels. A courtesy dock will open also, but the public is advised to use it at their own risk.

Both Canyon and Comal parks, operated by WORD, closed Tuesday to allow more time for assessment and cleanup efforts following the heavy flooding.

The two boat ramps in Comal Park remain closed.

“Though park conditions have been carefully assessed, we urge all visitors to use caution in and around the water as some lingering debris may still be present or submerged and not visible,” said WORD General Manager Mike Dussere. “As always, we recommend wearing water shoes and life jackets while in the lake.”

Saturday hours are 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with no entry permitted after 6 p.m.
