Thousands of yards of debris are in the floodwaters barreling down the Guadalupe River toward Spring Branch.
Comal County Pct. 1 Commissioner Doug Leecock, who represents this part of the county, said the water will crest over Rebecca Creek at the Guadalupe River tonight. It also could crest at Highway 281 and FM 311.
Comal County Sheriff’s deputies are placing barriers there and at the Highway 281 and FM 311 bridges.
Uncertainty about where the river will crest is driven by the debris field, which could inhibit river flow at various points along the Guadalupe River.
The public is advised to avoid these areas and stay home if living at a safe location not at risk for flooding.
“Please don’t gather on roadways to take videos and especially do not enter the Guadalupe River,” he said. “Please say a prayer or whatever you do for all those who are tragically affected by this flooding. It is a heartbreaking day for so many families.
“Again, forecast models are starting to catch up for the Guadalupe River at Spring Branch. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) prediction is by 2 a.m. (Saturday), the Guadalupe at Spring Branch will crest at 37.2 feet and be moving at 71,000 cfs.”
