Comal County Director of Public Health Cheryl Fraser said the flu count is high and her office is keeping a close eye on the schools.

Still recovering from the flu herself, Comal County Director of Public Health Cheryl Fraser told Commissioners Court on Thursday there is a “very high flu count number in the county…the flu is really bad right now.”

Those numbers are being driven by a burgeoning population and better data collection she said, adding her office is watching schools closely.

“I just want to encourage everyone to use hand hygiene, wash your hands, get your flu shot, do all the things you need to do.”

According to data posted on mycomalcounty.com, there were 98 cases of Flu Type A, 250 cases of Flu Type B, and 111 cases of flu-like illness reported for the week ending Jan. 11.

There were 68 cases of Flu Type A, 104 cases of Flu Type B, 91 cases of flu-like illness and 115 reports of “non-differentiated” for the week ending Jan. 4.

Comal County’s Office of Public Health provides immunizations, emergency-preparedness programs, public education, disease-testing and other initiatives to help keep Comal County residents safe and healthy.
