Four Colonial Manor Residents Die of COVID-19, County Reports 13 New Cases

Four residents of the Colonial Manner Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Braunfels died of COVID-19 between Aug. 5 and Aug. 15, Comal County said in a statement today.
The death of two females in their 80s, one male in his 80s and one female in her 90s were reported to Public Health on Wednesday.
Another 13 new cases of the disease also were reported, one of them in a northside Canyon Lake resident.
Of the new cases, 11 are confirmed and two are probable; 11 are New Braunfels-area residents, and one is from the Garden Ridge area. Four are younger than 30, four are in their 30s or 40s, three are in their 50s or 60s, and two are older than 70.
Comal County’s positivity rate is now 14.75%, a decrease from Wednesday’s rate of 15.53%.
Comal County also confirmed 10 more recoveries from COVID-19, for a total of 2,340. With 85 deaths, the county now has 483 active confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases. Of them, 69 are hospitalized.
Comal County hospitals reported caring for 12 COVID-19 patients; of those, seven are in intensive care beds, and five are on ventilators. Not all of these patients are necessarily county residents; likewise, not all county residents hospitalized with COVID-19 are in Comal County hospitals.

Of the 2,908 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases in Comal County, the location breakdown is:
- 2,214 from the New Braunfels area, including eastern and central Comal County
- 401 from western Comal County, including Bulverde and Spring Branch
- 134 from south of Canyon Lake
- 81 from north of Canyon Lake, including Fischer
- 70 from southern Comal County, including Garden Ridge and Schertz
- 8 from Fair Oaks Ranch
Probable Case Definition
“Probable cases” is a category established by the Texas Department of State Health Services to describe those who do not have a positive PCR test for COVID-19, but meet two of the following three criteria:
- A positive quick-result antigen test
- Experiencing COVID-19 symptoms
- Close contact with a confirmed positive COVID-19 case
A probable case is treated identically to a confirmed case and counts toward the county’s positivity rate and total case tally.
