Wow, we have this lovely website that keeps us up to date on what is happening around the lake and someone has to be picky about a sentence using a little southern slang. You are just taking it too literal.
I happen to know the author of this FREE site is a well educated, proper English speaking person.

OK, looks like fun. But I do have a question regarding grammar, or lack thereof, in this article.

The article says “VFW will sell raffle tickets and serve up hamburgers…” “serve UP”? Doesn’t it work just as well to say they’ll just “SERVE” hamburgers? What’s the deal with “serving UP”? What does “up” add to the sentence?

Yeah, I know, I know, it’s trivial. And today’s young people, especially, don’t give a rip about proper grammar. But the English language is going down the tubes, a little bit at a time. Somebody needs to shine some light on it, before all of us wind up grunting like animals to communicate, if anybody cares.

At the end of the day, they’ll SERVE hamburgers – no “UP” required.
