Comal County Recycling Center began accepting used live Christmas trees and garland at no cost on Dec. 26.

Residents can drop off Christmas trees and holiday garland free-of-charge at the Moe Schwab Recycling Center, 281 Resource Dr., northwest of New Braunfels.

Recycling Director James Tart said the offer ends Jan. 19, 2019.

The county’s recycling center is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

“We only ask that residents only bring live — not artificial — trees and garland, and that they remove tree stands, tinsel, ornaments and other decorations before bringing them for recycling,” he said. “We’re happy to accept your greenery and mulch it rather than see it go into a landfill.”

All other brush is subject to the center’s usual recycling fees.

Other services include free wood chips (bring a tarp to cover the load), free loading at specific times, free recycled cardboard boxes, and electronic recycling.
