Share
Eleven-year-old Brendan Edwards and his mother, Melissa, were killed in a car accident on Nov. 10. Mountain Valley Middle School Principal Dustin Davisson said the Canyon Lake community can support the Edwards family by donating funds or making meals.

Funeral services for 11-year-old Mountain Valley Middle School (MVMS) student Brendan Edwards and his mother Melissa Edwards, who were killed in a car accident on Sunday, are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Canyon Lake.

A rosary ceremony is set for 9:30 a.m. that morning, to be followed by a mass at 10 a.m. A formal memorial service at the school is planned for some time next semester.

MVMS Principal Dustin Davisson said financial donations for the family can be made at Branch of First United Bank, 20480 Hwy. 46W, Spring Branch. After regular hours, use the night drop box and write “Edwards Memorial Fund” on the envelope.

Checks must be made payable to Kenneth Edwards, the title on the account, which was set up solely to receive contributions. Donations also may be made through apps called Bravo Tip or Pay. Search “EdwardsFamilyMemorialFund.”

The Edwards, along with 93-year-old Walton Walker, a relative, were killed in a fiery car crash on FM 306 just before 7 p.m. on Nov. 10.

San Antonio-based Department of Public Safety (DPS) Sgt. Gus Moreno said 40-year-old Dave Michael Estes of New Braunfels was traveling eastbound on FM 306 when his 2015 Nissan Altima struck Edwards’ 2018 Ford Escape, which was traveling westbound between Purgatory Road and River Chase Drive.

Moreno said investigators have yet to reach any official conclusions as to the cause of the accident, but will post their findings to texas.gov. According to the site’s Crash Records Information System it can take up to 14 days from the crash date to appear online.

So sorry Ken. I was a very good friend of Melissa’s father. Walt Sr. Loved his grandkids. They all will be missed.

He was one of my bffs in 2 and 3 grade before he moved. If remember him being so happy going back there… 😔. Miss them all.
