The Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA), which manages water resources in Canyon Lake and the Guadalupe River Basin, received the 2025 Outstanding Membrane Plant Award for its Western Canyon Water Treatment Plant from the South Central Membrane Association (SCMA).

The award was announced at SCMA’s Annual Conference in Abilene Oct. 22-23.

The trade group honors operational excellence and performance in membrane filtration.

The Canyon Lake plant treats river water stored in Canyon Lake through a microfiltration system to produce up to 10 million gallons of drinking water per day.

The facility consists of a raw water intake at Comal Park on Canyon Lake, a 10 million-gallon-per-day micro-filtration water treatment plant at Startz Hill, two booster pump stations, and approximately 45 miles of raw and treated water pipelines.

Employees at the plant, which began delivering treated water to customers in 2006, also monitor customer delivery points along the treated water-transmission pipeline using a SCADA control and monitoring system.

With approximately 45 mile of raw and treated water pipelines, the facility provides a “firm, reliable supply of drinking water” to GBRA’s existing customer communities and water systems in Comal and Kendall counties, GBRA said in a statement.
