Canyon Lake Hawks got the better of Hondo on Friday, March 23, after walking all over the Owls scoring a 5-3 victory for their first win in District 28-4A play.

Their next game against Hondo is scheduled for Tuesday, March 27. Click here to see Canyon Lake’s complete baseball schedule.

Avery Montgomery continued his strong pitching by keeping Canyon Lake in this game before giving the ball to Drew Tyra after reaching his limit of pitches with one out in that 6th inning.

“It wasn’t a pretty win but a W is a W,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla quipped. “Avery (Montgomery) pitched well and Drew (Tyra) came in and out, with fire….we’ve got to get better in the hitting department and we will.”

This game was a loss last year and Canyon Lake is finding ways to get a win and that in itself was a great way for the Hawk nation to leave for this evening with a smile on their faces.

The Owls pitchers were finding it hard to see home plate after issuing 9 walks helping CL to craft enough runs to take the lead and eventual victory.

Tyra has been on a tear the past few games as he was able to get 2 of the 5 Hawk hits and get 2 rbi’s.

Canyon Lake was able to tie the score two times and in the bottom of the 5th, getting the game even was a key to this contest.
