Canyon Lake Hawks lost to #3 Liberty Hill but secured a third seed for the playoffs! Canyon Lake will face Needville at Cuero Friday night @ 7:30 p.m. for the bi-district game. Pregame show starts at 6:45 p.m.

The battered and injured Hawks went down hard Friday night against the # 3 state-ranked Liberty Hill as the Panthers took it to the Hawks 47-0.

The Hawks have had the injury bug ever since Burnett and have continually had anywhere from four to seven starters out through Fredericksburg- Lampasas and finally into Liberty Hill. So what do you do for the last game of the season against a #3 state-ranked team?

That’s correct, you bring up your junior-varsity team members and introduce them varsity football trial by fire, saving any further injuries to your starters.

One of those starters who had a pretty decent game was Wiatreck, who played linebacker for the entire night. Wiatreck taking the place of Jacob Ruff, who is out for the season, had good night considering that he stepped into a varsity game for his first time and that game was against a piranha Slot offense in Liberty Hill. So for the next two years remember that name Wiatreck as long he remains healthy.

So next week, the Hawks will travel to Cuero to take on the Needville Blue Jays with a 6-4 record from District 13, which average about 290 yards/rushing and 185 yards passing-per-game. They have racked 40 rushing touchdowns and 13 passing touchdowns, averaging 8.1 yards-per-carry. This was mostly on the talented legs of RB Ashton Stredick ( Jr.) and QB Kenny Hrncir (Sr.), totaling combined 2,635 yds total. In the air they will get WR Chris Grace catching the long pass, Vincent Villarreal (Soph) and Walker Warneck (Soph) catching intermediate ball for the most part.

These Guys Can Run

Hrncir has speed, as does Stredick, and the Hawks defense will have their work cut out for them as Needville boasts a big, front offensive line which makes huge holes for the backfield. The Blue Jays have racked up 405 total points this season and have allowed 370 points on defense. So the defense can be scored upon.

The Blue Jay Defense will have to contend with a Slot T offense, never seen before, and to boot Canyon Lake will have some of its starters back for this playoff game to boot.

The Hawks will get back some of their starters back but will forever be missing four starters from here on out through this playoff run this season. The Hawks can score on this Blue-Jay defense and will show Needville some looks offensively that they have never seen before.

When you prepare for a Slot T offense at practice you really can never fully prepare for it exactly because of all of the different blocking seems which come with the ground and pound offense. So Canyon Lake will have a slight advantage

The Hawks defense has only given up 183 points all season and of those 183 points 47 of them occurred last night as many of the JV players and second string players go a chance to play- So what does all of this mean?

Who knows? So, as predicted in the Fredericksburg/Lampasas game, this too will be a deep 4th-quarter game, which will decide who moves onto to the Area game after this bi-district slug fest.

So tune into the game as Canyon Lake Broadcasting, The Voice of the Hawks, brings you live coverage starting at 6:45 pm.
