Become a citizen scientist at iNaturalist Bioblitz from 9 to 11 a.m. this Saturday, April 27, at the Guadalupe River Trail parking lot, 16510 South Access Rd., Canyon Lake. Look for the “Nature Trail” sign.
The Bioblitz, sponsored by Comal County Conservation Alliance (CCCA), is defined as a period of time during which observers gather as much information as possible about a clearly defined natural habitat.
The event is open to anyone wishing to learn about and pratice use of the iNaturalist smart phone app, which should be downloaded onto participants’ phones before the event. Visit inaturalist.org for instructions and information. Partipants are urged to dress for the weather and bring a fully charged smart phone and a battery backup charger. Gardening-style kneeling pads are suggested, along with water, bug repellent and a keen eye for poison ivy.
Observations made by Canyon Lake residents will contribute to a worldwide City Nature Challenge Bioblitz, April 26-29. Data gathered will be included in the San Antonio metro area’s total as well as CCCA’s ongoing iNaturalist project, Comal County Wild!
According to CCCA, understanding habitat health depends on many observations of plants, insects, amphibians, birds and other things.
