Ho, ho, ho from the Walmart Supercenter in New Braunfels, recipient of one of just four “pickup towers” in the company’s Texas stores.
The 16 by 8-foot pickup tower arrived at the store, located at 1209 S I-35, in mid-November, just in time for the busy holiday shopping season.
Shoppers can use the Walmart website to make purchases and then receive an email notifying them that the package is ready for pickup.
Much like a high-tech vending machine for online orders, the glistening dispenser allows customers to pick up items in less than a minute by scanning a bar code sent to their smartphone.
“As you’re looking at online shopping as a growing business it’s all about speed and the digital age, so this is just another thing that we’re doing just to try to speed that up,” Jason Justice, manager at the Walmart Supercenter in New Braunfels, told KENS 5 Eyewitness News in San Antonio.
Customers say the towers are quicker than their human counterparts.
Walmart spokesman Justin Rushing says the towers could be rolled out to more stores if they’re a hit with customers.
