Monday Is Deadline to Apply for Family Protection Funds

Share
The funds are used by local nonprofits to benefit families and children impacted by divorce.

Service providers and nonprofit organizations have until Monday, March 1 to apply for funds that assist with family violence and child abuse and provide intervention, family strengthening, mental health, counseling, legal- and marriage-preservation services to families in need.

Under state law, funds are provided by a $15 protection fee Comal County charges for each divorce case filed in its courts. This year, $9,137 will be distributed to qualifying service providers and nonprofit organizations.

“These funds are used by our local nonprofits to benefit families and children impacted by divorce and the problems that so often go along with these sad occurrences,” said Comal County Pct. 3 Commissioner Kevin Webb. “We hope that these funds will play at least a small role in reducing family violence, child abuse, and the potential lifelong negative effects of what happens to our community’s children during these very trying times in their lives.
