Mr C’s Reopens

A year after developers tore down his legendary resale store to make room for an office plaza, Canyon Lake’s irrepressible Cary Caldwell has relocated Mr. C’s Eclectibles into two barndominiums situated on four acres along the bank of a “seasonal creek” on the north side of the lake, 15119 FM 306.
At 4,000-square-feet, the barndominiums are much roomier and upscale than his old store, which sat next to a bar and barbecue shop on the south side of the lake. But in true Mr. C fashion, the two buildings are connected by a wide cement patio perfect for his complimentary wine and music events.
Which is where he’ll celebrate his new venue with a grand reopening from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 23. The public is invited to enjoy wine and live music by saxophone player Mike Oliver beginning at 1 p.m.
“Mr. C’s might be known for that,” Caldwell laughs.
“I’m very eclectic. I like things that are different. And I kind of feel like I know a lot of people that they’re searching for just something that not everybody has. Repurposed items are generally very good sellers over here. I think out of the box, and most people do, (but) they’re very nervous to go that far. Just can’t let go of their inhibitions.
“I love antiques. I mess with antiques, estate sales. I buy from everybody. I buy brand new, from markets and garage sales. If I drive by a property and I see something on their front porch and I’ve driven by more than two or three times, and it’s something that really shouldn’t be on there, I’ll go and ask them if they want to sell it.
“I’ve gotten many of my pieces like that. I’ll do consignments if I have room. Always, when I find an artist that I like, I’ll push them. Get them out and sell items.”
Caldwell says he plans to have parties on the patio once a month but hasn’t set a firm date yet. Mr. C’s is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
Unless you see his car in the driveway and the barndominium doors up!
NOTE: Mr. C’s sits below road level in a wooded area, so look carefully for his hand-lettered sign. Parking is available at the bottom of the driveway — no need to park along the busy shoulder.
