MVES Emails Parents About Positive COVID-19 Case, District Reports 22 Positive Cases

Mountain Valley Elementary School emailed parents and guardians today informing them of a lab-confirmed positive case of COVID-19.

The school said it cannot divulge identifiable information about the member of its campus community who tested positive, but believes spread is mitigated. The individual did not show symptoms of the virus while on campus.

However, “close contacts” of these individuals will not be allowed on campus for 14 days.

According to a screen grab of that email, which posted to the Open Comal Schools Safely Facebook page, close contacts have been contacted by a case manager.

The number of “current active exposure-to-a-positive cases” at Canyon Lake High School jumped from six to 40.

Smithson Valley High School is now reporting five “current active positive cases,” two more than posted yesterday. Clear Spring Elementary School confirmed one “current active positive cases” today.

Districtwide, there are 22 current positive cases.

Unlike Comal County, the district’s dashboard is not cumulative and reflects only active cases.

DEFINITIONS:

Current active positive cases — lab-confirmed positive case is an individual who receives a positive test result

Current active symptomatic cases — experiencing symptoms including feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100-degrees Fahreheit; loss of taste or smell, cough, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath; fatigue; headache; chills; sore throat, congestion or runny nose; shaking or exaggerated shivering; significant muscle pain or ache; diarrhea, nausea or vomiting.

Current active exposure to a positive cases — close contact with a lab-confirmed cases is defined as either of the following occurring at any time in the lat 14 days when the infected individual was infectious 1. being directly exposed to fluids from the mouth or nose, such as being coughed on or 2. being within six feet for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes; individuals are presumed infectious at least two days prior to symptom onset or, in the case of asymptomatic individuals who are lab-confirmed with COVID-19, two days prior to the confirming lab test.
