NBPD Temporarily Closes Comal River Due to Heavy Rains

New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD) temporarily closed the Comal River to recreationists late this afternoon after heavy rains increased flows to 496 cubic feet-per-second (cfs), causing poor water clarity and debris along the riverbanks and at the Tube Chute.
City officials will reevaluate river conditions Tuesday morning to determine when river recreation can resume, NPBD said on Facebook.
Recreation on the Guadalupe River inside city limits is not affected by recent rains. Access to the Guadalupe River remains open.
Forecasters with the U.S. National Weather Service predict additional thunderstorm possibilities, NBPD said. Those ongoing weather factors will play a role in future decisions to reopen the river.
