New Braunfels Astronomy Club Invites Public To a Night of Stargazing at Tye Preston Memorial Library
Enjoy a night under the Canyon Lake stars Saturday with members of the New Braunfels Astronomy Club.
For their first Astronomy Night of the fall — rain or shine — they plan to meet inside Tye Preston Memorial Library, 16311 S. Access Rd., Canyon Lake, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday before walking across the parking lot for a star party at its Ravenstar Outdoor Education Brown Smith Observatory, which houses an 11-inch Celestron Schmidt Cassegrain telescope.
Members of the club will set up their own telescopes for members of the public.
Eric Erickson, a club member, said Venus will be setting but Jupiter and Saturn are featured guests along with star clusters and nebulae.
“We let the astronomers out there decide what to look at,” he said. “We try to inspire a little excitement in kids.”
One lucky attendee will win a Meade ETX-90EC Telescope Kit, a donation from the Gibbs family in northern Bexar County.
The meeting is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome.
