The City of New Braunfels temporarily closed the Comal River today after heavy overnight rain increased flows to more than 1,800 cubic feet per second (cfs), resulting in poor water clarity and debris along the riverbanks and at the Tube Chute Dam.

The city said it will reevaluate river conditions later today.

The U.S. National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the river, effective until late this afternoon.

The Guadalupe River in New Braunfels is flowing at approximately 800 cfs.

Anyone choosing to use the Guadalupe River for recreation is required to wear a life vest and should be aware that water clarity is poor and debris may not be visible from the surface, the city said in a statement.

The Spring Fed Pool at Landa Park Aquatic Complex also is temporarily closed for the day. The rest of the complex, including the Olympic Pool, will remain open.
