New Braunfels Closes Comal River to Recreationalists Due to Heavy Rains

New Braunfels city officials closed the Comal River to recreationalists today after heavy rains pushed river flows to over 400 cubic feet per second (cfs).
Poor water clarity and debris along the riverbanks and at the Tube Chute also were contributing factors in the decision late this afternoon.
Officials will reevaluate river conditions Friday morning to determine when river recreation can resume.
However, forecasters with the National Weather Service caution that more thunderstorms could be on the way.
New Braunfels Police Department closed the river to tubers on Saturday after flow rates surged to over 800 cfs in the aftermath of heavy rain.
