Comal County confirmed the COVID-19 death of a New Braunfels man in his 20s today.

The man died at home on Dec. 6, becoming the county’s 473rd fatality from the virus.

In a statement, Comal County Public Information Officer Cary Zayas also reported 62 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 20,575 since reporting began in March 2020.

Today’s numbers include cases reported over the weekend.

On Tuesday, county hospitals reported caring for six COVID-19 patients. Of those, two are in intensive care and one is on a ventilator. None of these patients are vaccinated. Not all COVID-positive patients hospitalized in the county are necessarily county residents.

Some 61.43% of Comal County residents are fully vaccinated (two shots).

The Public Health Department is administering Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for those 18 and older, and Pfizer vaccines for anyone five years and up.

Those who are high risk and qualify for a third dose or a booster also can call to schedule an appointment for a vaccine.

The number is 830-221-1150.
