New Braunfels police (NBPD) Thursday arrested 21-year-old Grace Carol Brown and transported her to Comal County Jail, where she was charged with setting fire to Comal County Republican Headquarters on Jan. 14.
The New Braunfels resident faces charges of burglary of a building and arson. Bond is set at a combined $200,000.
Investigators with NBPD, the New Braunfels Fire Marshal’s Office, and the FBI’s San Antonio office, using a Computer Analysis Response Team (CART), identified the suspect, gathered additional evidence, and obtained search and arrest warrants.
At 1:15 p.m. Jan. 14, NBPD and the New Braunfels Fire Department responded to a call from employees at Republican headquarters, 265 Landa St., New Braunfels, who arrived at work to find someone had broken a window and started a small fire that caused minor damage to the building.
The case remains open and the investigation continues. Brown has not bonded out.
Monday, Republican Party Chair Anita Valdez, speaking at a candidate forum, called the fire an act of ‘political violence’ and hinted there may be others involved in the incident.
