A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed Thursday at a residence on Saengerhalle Road in New Braunfels.
New Braunfels police arrested and charged two teens with capital murder in connection with the shooting.
Jayce Cooper, 18, was identified as the alleged shooter of the victim. He remains in critical condition at San Antonio’s University Hospital, undergoing treatment for a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police said he was shot by the victim.
Cooper will be transferred to Bexar County Jail when he is released from the hospital.
A 16-year-old alleged suspect identified as present and involved in the altercation was jailed at the Guadalupe County Juvenile Detention Center.
In a statement today, New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD) said police and first responders with the New Braunfels Fire Department arrived at the murder scene after callers reported hearing multiple gunshots and witnessed two individuals fleeing the scene.
Attempts to revive the victim, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators learned an 18-year-old male was dropped off at Resolute Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. Cooper was transferred to University hospital.
NBPD said they identified the primary suspects after “an extensive investigation that included multiple interviews, review of video evidence, pursuing multiple leads, and securing vital evidence.”
The incident remains part of an ongoing investigation and additional arrests/charges may be pending.
Efforts are ongoing to locate “any additional parties” with information about the incident.
