The U.S. National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio (NWS) today issued a fire danger statement for all of South-Central Texas, including the Canyon Lake area and Comal County.

It remains in effect until 8 p.m.

Residents are urged to exercise care with all outdoor activities that could inadvertently cause wildfires.

Avoid using welding or grinding equipment near grass and dry brush. Also, avoid parking vehicles in tall, dry grass and weeds that could be ignited.

Do not toss cigarette butts on the ground.

Report wildfires quickly to the nearest fire department or law enforcement office.

The area is dry to critically dry with relative humidity as low as 13-25 percent. Winds are from the north or south at five to 12 miles per hour.

Comal County remains under a burn ban. Today’s Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) is 696, well above the 500-mark threshold that triggers a burn ban.
