On-Campus or Online? It’s Decision Time for Comal ISD Parents

Parents of Comal ISD students must decide by Aug. 11 whether to send their children back to schools on Aug. 25 or opt for online education.
The district opened its Instructional Delivery Option (IDO) through its Skyward parent portal today.
Comal ISD Supt. Andrew Kim described this as a significant milestone in the district’s 2020-21 Launch Back-to-School 2020-2021 plan.
“As a parent, I know that this can be a difficult decision as you try to weigh the balance between the desire to return to a sense of normalcy and protecting the health of your child,” he said in an email to parents. “In the end, it comes down to you — as a parent — making the choice for what you think is the best learning environment for your child.”
Kim said the district needs time to prepare class schedules.
Parents will receive specific instructions on Friday about how to use Skyward Parent Access along with a step-by-step video, he said. Parents are encouraged to visit the district’s online Comal Parent Center to learn more about on-campus instruction or remote learning for the first grading parent.
In July, in a non-binding committal, 60-percent of Comal ISD parents pre-selected on-campus instruction for 17,300 students.
