One Death, Twenty New Cases of COVID-19 Reported in Comal County

Comal County added 20 new cases of COVID-19 to its dashboard on Wednesday, for a total of 3,845.
A New Braunfels man in his 80s passed away in a New Braunfels hospital, bringing the total of deceased to 121.
There are now 132 active, confirmed-and-probable COVID19 cases. Of those four are hospitaized.
The county’s seven-day positivity rate is 8.83%, below Texas’ 10.25% rate.
Nineteen of the cases are new and one is backlogged. Seventeen of the cases are probable and two are confimed.
The county also confirmed its first “suspected” case of the virus in a New Braunfels woman in her 50s who tested positive on an antibody test.
Another 14 COVID-19 recoveries were confirmed, for a total of 3,591.
On Wednesday, Comal County hospitals reported caring for eight COVID-19 cases. Of those, three are in intensive care and one is on a ventilator.

Probable Case Definition
“Probable case” is a category established by the Texas Department of State Health Services to describe those who do not have a positive PCR test for COVID-19 but meet two of the following three criteria:
- Meets clinical criteria AND epidemiologic linkage with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for SARS-CoV-2.
- Meets presumptive* laboratory evidence – Presumptive* laboratory evidence: Detection of SARS-CoV-2 by antigen test in a respiratory specimen
- Meets vital records criteria with no confirmatory laboratory evidence for SARS-CoV-2.
A probable case is treated identically to a confirmed case and counts toward the County’s positivity rate and total case tally. Suspect case definition

“Suspect case” meets supportive laboratory evidence with no prior history of being a confirmed or probable case. It is also counted towards the total case tally. Supportive Laboratory Evidence means detection of specific antibody in serum, plasma, or whole blood or detection of specific antigen by immunocytochemistry in an autopsy specimen
