USACE: All Canyon Parks Open

Share

Five seasonal parks that remained closed in April pending resolution of service-contract issues are now open, according to the the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Now open are

  • Cranes Mill Park Tent Camping Area
  • North Park Camping Area
  • Canyon Park Camping Area
  • Canyon Park Swim Beach
  • Comal Park Day Use Area

The Corps made the decision earlier this year not to reopen the parks until service contracts for refuse disposal, cleaning, mowing and portable toilets were in place.

Canyon Lake Manager Marcus Schimank described these service contracts as essential to the responsible operation of the parks.

The decision not to reopen these seasonal parks was controversial because of potential adversarial impacts on local businesses dependent on tourism.

Parks already open are:

  • Potter’s Creek Loop 1 Camping Area
  • Cranes Mill Park RV Loop
  • Overlook Park
  • Guadalupe Park
  • Little Jacob’s Creek Park (Boat Ramp 17)
  • Potter’s Creek West Ramp (Boat Ramp 21)
