Police are investigating two homicides that occurred along the I-35 corridor between New Braunfels and San Antonio early this morning.
First responders with the New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD), New Braunfels Fire Department and Comal County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) arrived at the scene of a single-vehicle accident in the 3900 block of I-35 North near the Walmart Distribution Center around 2:50 a.m. and discovered the body of a 33-year-old Austin woman inside a black Ford Expedition parked on the shoulder of the highway.
She had been shot, according to a statement by NBPD
At the same time, additional officers were called to the TA Truck Stop in the 4800 block of I-35 North, where eyewitnesses reported hearing a number of gunshots just before an 18-wheeler left the parking lot at a high rate of speed.
Forty-five minutes later the truck, which was driving erratically on I-35, crashed in the downtown San Antonio area. The driver fled on foot. The San Antonio Police Department found the body of a man inside the cab.
A suspect is now in custody.
NBPD and CCSO are investigating the death of the woman, now classified as a homicide. She has not been identified pending notification of next-of-kin. Comal County Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Mike Rust has ordered an autopsy.
