Pct. 1 Commissioner Doug Leecock said Comal County Road Department crews will need another week to complete concrete repairs at Boat Ramp #1, 579 Skyline Dr.
The entire parking area will remain closed through May 23. The ramp closed May 8 to allow crews to pour a new ramp and add riprap — loose stone — to prevent erosion and improve long-term safety.
Boat Ramp #1 was expected to reopen on Saturday.
“So, the ‘entire’ parking area is closed,” Leecock said on social media Saturday. “There are materials, equipment, and, simply, the ramp and some of the parking area remain a construction zone. The barriers will remain at the entrance. Please note, driving around the barriers could result in a fine.”
Dozens of recreationalists didn’t care.
This weekend they drove around the large blue sign warning them to stay away from the ramp.
An administrator with Comal County Scanner, a popular Facebook page that monitors Comal County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and Canyon Lake Fire/EMS radio transmissions, visited Boat Ramp #1 over the weekend and today posted a reel showing people sunning themselves on the “beach” and swimming in Canyon Lake.
