Race to the Pantry Benefits CRRC

Share
This year's Race to the Pantry benefits Community Resource and Recreation Center of Canyon Lake's (CRRC) Food Pantry. Runners should report to the starting line at 8 a.m. Dec. 21 at the CRRC Recreation Center, 125 Mabel Jones Dr.

December means running weather in Canyon Lake.

Gorgeous scenery is an added incentive to lace up sneakers for the annual Race to the Pantry 5K and 10K, scheduled for 8 a.m. Dec. 21. Registration and packet pickup begins at 6:45 a.m. Online registration ends at midnight Dec. 19.

Fees range from $12 to $40.

The race benefits the Community Resource and Recreation Center of Canyon Lake’s (CRRC) food pantry in Sattler.

The pantry provides food assistance to area residents. In 2018, the charity served 8,300 individuals, according to Race Director Bernie Frey.

He said the race is fun for all ages.

“We will have 5K and 10K chip-timed races, a one-mile walk and a kids K,” Frey said. “All 5K and 10K runners are eligible for a drawing to receive 25,000 Southwest Airlines miles.”

Free food and drinks include Starbucks coffee, fruit, energy bars, Rudy’s sausage wraps and micro-brewed beer from Guadalupe Valley Brewery.

Children will get to walk/race with a suited-up “piece of celery.”
