Comal County is not currently included in the warning area.
A red flag warning is in effect for Bexar County from noon Thursday to 3 a.m. Friday, the U.S. National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio said Wednesday.
Comal County is not currently included in the warning area.
Very strong northwest winds and low humidity are expected as a Pacific cold front moves through the area. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph across the Rio Grande Plains, southern Edwards Plateau, Hill Country and portions of the I-35 corridor.
Critical fire weather conditions are expected.
The public is asked to avoid activities that could inadvertently cause a wildfire. Any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Loose objects such as trash cans or light furniture that could blow away should be secured. Drivers are advised to keep a firm grip on the steering wheel and watch for fallen debris on the road.
Isolated showers and storms are possible overnight into early Thursday morning across the Hill Country and portions of the I-35 corridor. There is a risk of a few severe storms across most of south-central Texas late Thursday afternoon and evening, including the Hill Country, I-35 corridor and coastal plains.
Damaging straight-line winds, isolated tornadoes and large hail are possible with any severe storms.
