San Marcos Consolidated ISD (SMCISD) Board of Trustees on Monday approved a one-time $250 stipend for all district employees who get vaccinated against COVID-19.

“Protecting our ISD teachers, staff and students and ensuring our employees are healthy and on campus, in their classrooms and teaching SMCISD students is tax dollars well spent,” Miguel Arredondo, District One trustee, posted on Facebook.

The resolution, approved by a vote of 5-2, authorizes the stipend also to be provided to staff with medical or religious exemptions.

The vaccination incentive will cost the district $300,000, according to SMCISD District Assistant Superintendent of Business and Support Services James Barton.

Arrendondo has served on San Marcos’ board of trustees since 2015. His district straddles southeastern Hays and northwestern Guadalupe counties.
