Enrollment is now open for residents wishing to attend Comal County’s eighth annual, 10-week University of County Government.
Classes provide an introduction to the role and function of county government and offer a look at the offices and departments that serve Comal County residents.
Students will
- Hear from elected officials and other county employees about functions and services performed by counties across the state.
- Learn how Comal County is similar or different as it serves 140,000 residents.
- Receive an overview of the budget planning-and-approval process.
- Get a unique education in how local and state governments work together to serve the public.
The class initially meets in the historic Comal County Courthouse, with other sessions taking place at other county facilities like the County Jail, Extension Office and Elections Center.
Classes are scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday March 10 through May 12. Graduates will be recognized by Comal County Commissioners Court on May 14.
Enrollment is limited to 30 students. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The program won a Best Practices award from the Texas Association of Counties in 2016.
