Startz Memorial VFW Post 8800 hosts Memorial Day-Remember and Honor 11 a.m. Monday, May 26.

The event includes a special recognition of the deceased and an invocation and benediction by Grace Bible Church of Canyon Lake Pastor William “Bill” Cooley.

Boy Scout Troop 222 will post the colors.

Refreshments follow.

The VFW is located at 7755 FM 2673, Canyon Lake.

The City of New Braunfels and several local agencies also will host a Memorial Day ceremony honoring military members who lost their lives serving their country 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 27 at New Braunfels Veterans Memorial, 3030 West San Antonio St., New Braunfels.

Mayor Neal Linnartz and other City of New Braunfels officials will join members of New Braunfels VFW Post #7110, American Legion Post #179, cadets from the New Braunfels High School (NBHS) and Canyon High School Junior ROTC programs, members of the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee, the New Braunfels Noon Lions Club, the New Braunfels Knights of Columbus, NBHS Choir and Band, and the NBFD Pipes and Drums in hosting this ceremony.

“The City of New Braunfels is honored to be a part of this event commemorating those who have died in service to our great country,” said New Braunfels Mayor Neal Linnartz. “I encourage all residents to take time out of their long holiday weekend to honor the sacrifices made by the service men and women who have died while in active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces.”

The ceremony will include comments from guest speaker Retired U.S. Army Sergeant Omar Avila, along with patriotic music, a rifle salute, a wreath placement, flag lowering, and comments from various speakers and elected officials. Again, the New Braunfels Memorial Day ceremony is set for 8:30 am on Monday, May 27th, 2024, at the New Braunfels Veterans Memorial, located at 3030 West San Antonio Street.
