Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) launched a new COVID-19 variant dashboard today that tracks the spread of COVID variants over time.
Data is pulled from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the nation’s health protection agency, DSHS said.
Samples of positive COVID-19 tests are taken from around Texas to track and understand variants spreading in Texas.
The program sequences thousands of COVID-19 cases each week to help scientists and public health professionals understand how the virus spreads and changes over time.
Data will help researchers know whether existing COVID-19 tests, treatments and vaccines will continue to work against emerging variants, DSHS said.
